Women's in History Essay Contest

Author: Communications Committee/Friday, April 25, 2014/Categories: General

The Richmond County Chapter sponsored (well, stole - with permission - the idea from the Westchester Chapter) a Women's in History Essay Contest with PS 45's 4th grade class. The winner, Samantha Peralta, her Mother Eileen Peralta and teacher, Mrs. Gold-Peckerman, attended the March meeting where Samantha received her award and read her essay.  The award was the $50 that the chapter received at last year's Annual Conference for the Youth Leadership Award. The 4th grade students were invited to submit an essay on a woman in history or a woman making history who has had an impact on their lives.  Samantha wrote about her Mom who "wants the very best for me; she is a role model."  Members of the Richmond County Chapter were also invited to participate in the 'adult portion' of the evening by submitting an essay on a woman who inspires them.  Many members entered the contest and the membership chair, Christine Canella won first prize which was a copy of a book about another inspiring woman, Rosie the Riveter.
